Newest Winneshiek County Deputy is a former Decorah police officer

The newest Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputy is Chris Wuebker of Decorah, who moves to the Sheriff's Office from the Decorah Police Department, where he worked as an officer for eight years.

Wuebker was sworn into office Tuesday morning, with Sheriff Dan Marx praising his "terrific service record."  He attended Luther College and earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in 2009.

In 2017 Wuebker received the Enrique S. Camarena Award, named after Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who was an 11-year veteran agent of the DEA before being kidnapped, brutally tortured and then murdered in Mexico in 1985 while working undercover gathering information and evidence about drug lords. The award is presented each year to local law enforcement officers who best exemplify the qualities and principles for which Agent Camarena gave his life -- specifically, making their communities a safer place to live through outstanding drug prevention and enforcement efforts.  Wuebker's award was given to him by the United States Attorney's Offices for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

In addition to the hiring of Wuebker, the Sheriff's Office has added Byron Hook and Deana Torgrim as part-time reserve deputies.  Hook is a former Decorah Police Officer and has served in the United State Army.  Torgrim is a former Sigourney Police Officer who currently serves in the United States Army Reserves.
