The Milwaukee Jounral-Sentinel is telling its readers about "the outstanding National Norwegian-American Museum and Heritage Center in Decorah, Iowa, a town of roughly 9,000 people and home to Luther College."
Maybe the article by Brian E. Clark was a little overboard on Decorah's population, but it is accurate when it says, "With more than 33,000 artifacts in its collection, (Vesterheim) is the largest museum in the country devoted to a single immigrant group."
The article also extensively quotes Vesterheim's Charlie Langton, who gives Clark the history of the museum--that got its start in 1877, received two large gifts in 1925 and 1932, the museum received two large gifts of artifacts, then became independent of Luther College in 1965.
