What does the future hold for the Decorah Airport?

The Iowa Department of Transportation requires airports in the state to periodically draft "Iowa Airport Improvement Programs," which are like wish lists for local airports.  The Iowa DOT considers the requests and uses the documents to annually award state funds for airports across the state, paying 85 percent of project costs.

The Decorah Airport Board is listing two projects on its "wish list"—a new corporate hangar and a future terminal and lounge building.  If the corporate hangar is funded by the Iowa DOT, Decorah would not be on the hook for the 15 percent local project match, since there will be offsetting revenue from lease payments.
