Deputies warn that "Package Pirates" have struck

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says it has received reports of "porch pirates" taking packages from doorsteps and porches in the county.

The Sheriff's Office is urging the public to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity around your neighborhood.  If you notice anything suspicious, please contact the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office at (563) 382-4268.

Other steps you can take to counter the theft of packages from your home is to have packages delivered to your workplace instead, if that is practical, or require a signature on the package delivery.  A much more expensive option--although an effective one--is to install a front door security camera.
