Work continues on Dug Road Trail

Crews will continue to work on the Dug Road Trail project as long as possible this winter.

The project is removing rock from an area of the trail that collapsed in last year's flooding, then installing rock "pillows" to stabilize the base of the trail.

City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says the crew has removed more rock than expected from the east end of the landslide area, but less rock in a few other areas.

City and county officials who supervise the area's trail system say they're also working on the details of what to plant along the repaired area of Dug Road.  Prairie grass is one possibility, as are river birches.  The plantings are seen as a way to further stabilize the trail after it has been repaired
