Last fall the City of Decorah paid $900,000 for the purchase of an aerial ladder fire truck from the City of Indianola.
The purchase was primarily financed through bonds. However, the city also planned to pay for the fire truck by selling the former aerial fire truck. The city put the former fire truck up for sale in the late spring, asking $90,000, with the understanding that it would have to spend $10,000 to $15,000 on repairs to the truck before it could be sold.
City Administrator Chad Bird says the former aerial ladder fire truck now appears to have been sold for $80,000 to the Farmington, Michigan fire department . The truck has just left Decorah for the Twin Cities, where it will have those repairs done. Bird says the Decorah City Council will be asked December 18th to approve the sale of the fire truck.
