Celebrate the season of giving with WMC Auxiliary Light for Life program

Posted: Mon, Dec 4, 2017 11:20 AM

The Winneshiek Medical Center Auxiliary invites the community to celebrate the season of giving through the 2017 Light for Life program.

Light for Life is the Auxiliary's annual community giving campaign.  For a donation of $15 or more, your loved one is honored or remembered with lighted snowflakes in the windows of WMC. The snowflakes will light up WMC each night in December.

This year, the WMC Auxiliary's Light for Life campaign will support the purchase of two items for the Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine department. The first is a NuStep to facilitate therapy for hospitalized patients in skilled care who are recovering from anything from strokes to joint replacements. The second set of items will allow therapists to implement the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Feeding Program at Winneshiek Medical Center, an approach that focuses on increasing a child's comfort level with food by exploring and learning about the different properties of food.

"Over 50% of the children we currently care for have feeding difficulties that are impacting their daily lives," says WMC pediatric occupational therapist Tarynne Carlson. She adds, "The SOS approach takes into account all of a child's health needs, such as sensory, oral, motor and behavioral, and will enhance the care we provide for children in our community."

Donations may be made at Winneshiek Medical Center or forms are available at www.winmedical.org/auxiliary through December 31st. Contributions are tax deductible, and a listing of donors will be displayed in Winneshiek Medical Center's Main Entrance.
