Winneshiek County supervisors on Monday made appointments to the county's Compensation Board. The little-known board meets at the end of every calendar year to make a recommendation on pay raises for county elected officials.
Last December the board recommended a 3 percent pay raise, voting 4-2 in favor of the proposal. The previous three years the board had recommended pay raises averaging around 6 percent after a compensation study concluded that Winneshiek county wages were much lower than those in comparable Iowa counties.
This year's Compensation Board will meet Monday, December 11th, to figure out what salaries should be paid to County Attorney Andy Van der Maaten, County Auditor Ben Steines, County Recorder Teresa Bockman, County Sheriff Dan Marx, County Treasurer Wayne Walter and all five county supervisors.
