A "Pro-Ag Outlook Forum" on December 8th in Decorah will give farmers and ag business owners a chance to get updated predictions about next year's trends in agriculture.
The forum will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Pinter's Greenhouse on Highway 9 west of Decorah and is intended for people living in counties in northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota.
The forum features a keynote presentation by Iowa State University Agricultural Economics Professor Dr. Chad Hart, who will discuss the cyclical nature of the markets including the factors shaping the markets and the keys to watch as farmers market their grain over the coming year.
Other speakers will include ISU Livestock Marketing Analyst Dr. Lee Schulz, who will review the livestock situation, reviewing the profit potential and survival techniques in the livestock sector; Agricultural Economist Dr. Alejandro Plastina, who will share his latest overview on the Iowa farm profitability outlook and will highlight what successful Iowa farms are doing differently; and ISU Extension Farm and Agribusiness Management Specialist Melissa O'Rourke, who will discuss the trends in farmland rental rates and will share ways to follow these trends.
The forum lasts 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on the length of discussions, The cost to attend is $20 per person for those who register now by calling the ISU Extension and Outreach office in Decorah at (563) 382-2949. Walk-in registration will be $25.
