Dug Road has been closed because of construction

Repairs have begun on the Dug Road portion of Trout Run Trail. The Dug Road section of the trail will remain closed until work is complete.

Crews from Holland Construction will remove 18 feet of rock and put in several 1.5 foot tall "pillows" of rock wrapped in fabric.  The pillows allow for a little bit of shifting, but keep the trail base stable.  That would provide "a permanent fix" to the shifting of Dug Road Trail.

Holland Construction will be paid $203,744 for the project, which is only for the portion of the degraded Dug Road near the Decorah Campground and only for soil modification and a reconstituted surface. It does not include final hardsurfacing, which will be delayed until next spring.  It also does not include installing a new bridge along the Dug Road portion of Trout Run Trail--city officials will study that possibility in 2019.

70 percent of this fall's project will be covered with FEMA funding, with another 15 percent from the State.
