Signs warn of the construction

Assistant Winneshiek County Engineer Isaac Wiltgen says the North Winn Road construction project is back on track after construction impacted traffic patterns recently.

Wiltgen says crews from JB Holland got delayed on some other out-of-town road projects and waeredelayed in getting back to Decorah to handle North Winn Road.  A crew from a second construction company was hired, but that meant there were days when both the north and south ends of North Winn Road were under construction and the only access was from gravel roads.

Residents along North Winn Road complained there were no signs directing detour traffic, but Winneshiek County's contract did NOT include a provision requiring detour signs.  Winneshiek County supervisors were surprised to learn of this on Monday and new road contracts will likely include such language.

North Winn Road now has detour signs on the south end, including one saying the road is open to Seed Savers. Wiltgen says construction should last for another two or three weeks, with the entire length of the road being open to traffic in December.
