(Members of the board of the Self Supporting Municipal Improvement District have e-mailed the following Letter to the Editor):

"The Downtown Decorah Betterment Association and the Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District would like to thank the following individuals, businesses, and community organizations for their hard work in caring for Decorah's beautiful flower baskets this summer.

Jill Bolson and her dedicated crew kept on top of watering and fertilizing each basket.

Donations of time and equipment were made by Kuhn Motors, Bartlett Electric, Dan's Standard, Jim Lukes and Decorah Greenhouse, Steve Spilde and Steve's Car Care, and Julie Spilde and Ace Hardware.

The DDBA purchased the watering truck, and the taxpayers of SMMID (along with DBBA) bought the flowers and plants.

The City of Decorah Street Department put up and removed the baskets.

The Decorah Fire Department allowed the watering team to utilize station amenities when filling the tank.

Together, this partnership ensured the continued beauty of our commercial districts, making Decorah a better place to live, work and shop.  A grateful community says, "Thanks!"

If anyone is interested in helping to continue Decorah's hanging basket tradition, please contact Kristina at the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce.  Paid positions are available.
