In 2016 members of the Decorah Elks decided to expand their benevolent activities and establish the Decorah Elks Charitable Foundation. The mission of this foundation is to address the needs of children, primarily those in foster care or crisis situations.
The board of the Elks Charitable Foundation is in the process of selecting projects to sponsor and they are planning activities and other methods of promoting and raising funds for the selections. All Elks and members of the general public are invited to join in supporting the cause through volunteer work and charitable, tax deductible contributions.
The foundation is governed by a voluntary board and all expenses are covered by the Decorah Elks, allowing 100% of the tax deductible donations to be utilized to address the needs of the children in the area. Donations are welcome and can be sent to Decorah Elks Charitable Foundation, 105 River St. Decorah, IA 52101.
The Decorah Elks Club has been a part of the Decorah community since 1898 and in their present location since 1918. The mission of the Elks is to provide benevolence to and protection for people in their communities who are in need and at risk. Nationally, Elks clubs raised over 300 million dollars last year for community causes. Locally, the Decorah Elks Club has quietly sponsored fundraising for breast cancer awareness, young adults with disabilities (Get2Gether), Veterans, and other projects.
