(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Spencer Bolson of Decorah):
"As a former fellow serviceman in the United States Military, I am honored to support and vote for Charles Lore for 5th Ward councilperson.
From helping to create the Decorah Viking Booster Club, to helping to make the Nordic Fest Parade a success, to leading the drive to get water and sewer to our industrial park on the east edge of town, he has been a tireless worker.
He also seemed to be the driving force on the city council to support our volunteer firemen in acquiring a newer ladder truck to replace the inadequate one we had and that made it actually possible to safely reach the tower dorms at Luther College to fight fires and safely extract students who could be trapped on upper floors. He has been a constant supporter of our firemen and insisted we have a full-time professional fireman on duty 24 hours a day, when others on the city council thought 16 hours a day was enough and wanted to let 9-1-1 operators handle the other 8 hours. In that other 8 hours there could be a long delay in response time getting the first truck to the fire.
I have had many conversations with Chuck concerning the water runoff problem toward my Elmwood Addition property on College Drive from the Vennehjem addition's hard surfaced area. He has arranged meetings with the manager of Aase Haugen and me to discuss options that might solve this problem. He has suggested a slow release pond to alleviate the flooding on my property and on Pine Crest Drive.
Chuck is a good listener and works hard for the betterment of Ward 5 and the citizens of Decorah. My wife and I are voting for Charles Lore. Do not forget to vote for Charles Lore on November 7th."
