Former Iowa City mayor Ross Wilburn says his time as mayor informs how he would act as Iowa Governor

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ross Wilburn has served on the Iowa City School Board and as mayor of Iowa City.  Thursday night he told members of the Winneshiek County Democratic Party, "I know what happens when you don't take action."

For instance, Wilburn says the reduction in the state's support of mental health services has hurt Iowa, but wonders "Why do we have to wait for a crisis?"  He also notes that funding for education has fallen, but says, "We can change the story we've been hearing."

Wilburn is the diversity officer and the associate program director for Community and Economic Development for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. He has 26 years of experience in nonprofit and governmental organizations locally and nationally.

Wilburn told Winneshiek County Democrats he wants to become governor so the state can become healthier, more prosperous and more inclusive.
