decorahnews.com posted a story Monday about a transient man, "Jimmy," who had been helped by a couple passing through Decorah. They paid for a room for two nights at Super 8 in Decorah, and then were told the motel had overbooked rooms and Jimmy would have to leave in the morning.
Since then Jimmy has been staying in Chickasaw County, with the help of people who had let him stay with them for a couple months a couple years ago .
A Facebook page has been created, called "Where in the Tar-Nation is Jimmy Robinson." The page posts updates on Jimmy, with the hopes of connecting people who have crossed paths with him or any family who may be missing him, as he has been living a transient life over 42 years.
A recent post reported "Last night Jimmy settled into his very own room, with a TV, bed, dresser and privacy. He has been watching sports in the main living area for the past few days, has enjoyed home cooked meals, and even made a bit of cash yesterday helping a woman move. He seems happy, at peace and has stated his thanks to the family hosting him."
Jimmy was taken to the Walmart in Waverly, where a hair stylist donated her own time and money to trim his hair and beard. Donations of car rides, or taking him to lunch help out. He enjoys the company. Anyone who spends time with him will hear stories of his travels around the country, including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida and Montana. He enjoys interaction with children and families.
A gofundme page has been set up in an effort to raise funds for Jimmy as he plans to stay in the NE Iowa area throughout the winter. Even though his original story when he passed through Decorah has been shared over 500 times on Facebook, the gofundme page has not had much monetary support. The funds would help take care of daily needs and the more extensive doctor and vision needs that need to be addressed.
