(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by John Carver of Decorah):
"How many distracted drivers have you experienced? The number is increasing, as are accidents. Multitasking may work in the office but not while driving.
We were stopped recently on Broadway and Mechanic Streets, headed east. Through traffic was moving north on Mechanic. This distracted driver turned left and passed right by us. Talking on the phone and missing a pedestrian by inches. It appeared the driver didn't even realize the pending accident. How tragic! The next time someone is on the phone think of yourself as a statistic.
The phone call can wait. The accident won't."
