The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says its deputies have handled four traffic accidents in recent days.

Around 6:45 p.m. Friday evening, deputies were called to Highway 52 and North Street in Calmar.  60-year-old Daryl Schmitt of Fort Atkinson was stopped at a stop sign and didn't see 18-year-old Tanner Tollefsrud of Fort Atkinson coming over the hill.  Schmitt failed to yield and struck Tollefsrud, causing $8,000 in damages.  Neither driver was hospitalized.

Schmitt was arrested for operating while intoxicated and taken to the Winneshiek County Jail.  Schmitt was also cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway and for open container.

Shortly before 2:00 Friday afternoon, 55-year-old Barry Timmerman of Strawberry Point was traveling east on County Road B32 when he came upon a sharp turn and was not able to negotiate the turn, lost control of his motorcycle and entered the south ditch. Timmerman was thrown from the bike and the bike flipped into the ditch.  He was not injured, but the accident caused $10,000 in damages to his motorcycle.

Wednesday night around 9:30, 31-year-old Travis Deahl of Waterloo was traveling east on Highway 24, negotiating a left curve, when he met a westbound tractor trailer that was in his lane.  Deahl swerved to avoid a collision, but the two vehicles struck.  The driver of the semi, 30-year-old Samuel Melver of Cresco, continued on without stopping.  Deahl pulled over and called 911.  Melver was later located and cited for traveling on the wrong side of a two lane highway.

Finally, around 6:15 Wednesday night, 41-year-old Amanda Anderson of Lanesboro, Minnesota was northbound on Highway 52 just north of Decorah when a deer came out of the west ditch and struck the SUV, causing $9,000 in damages.  Anderson was transported by ambulance to Winneshiek Medical Center.
