Minnesota woman injured in Thursday afternoon accident near Burr Oak

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department was called to Highway 52 and County Road A-18 around 1:30 Thursday afternoon because of a two-vehicle collision.

Deputies say 64-year-old Susan Nelson of Harmony was northbound on Highway 52 and made a left turn heading west on County Road A-18.  Her vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by 68-year-old Kathryn Newman of Mabel, who was southbound on Highway 52. 

Nelson was airlifted from the scene by the Mayo 1 helicopter.  Newman was evaluated at the scene by Winneshiek Medical Center paramedics and was taken by private vehicle for further evaluation.

The accident caused $14,500 in damages.

The sheriff's office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance, Mabel Ambulance, Mayo 1, Decorah Fire Department, Mabel Fire Department, First Responders, Bill's Towing, and Don's Towing.
