The DNR will hold a public hearing Wednesday, November 29th in Elkader to take comments on a proposed stormwater construction permit for the Walz Energy facility near Monona.

Walz has begun construction on a 10,000-head cattle feedlot and biogas operation east of Monona.  The DNR hearing will run from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the public meeting room at the Clayton County Office Building at 600 Gunder Road in Elkader.  At the hearing, comments can be submitted regarding concerns about sediment and erosion control at the construction site.

Walz Energy says the manure from the 10,000 cattle at the site will be captured and combined with waste feed products to producing natural gas , with the help of the anaerobic digesters.

The DNR had originally scheduled a public hearing on the permit for this month, but postponed the hearing because of a larger than normal number of comments it received from the public.
