When Decorah school board president Ron Fadness realized there was an open seat for the board of directors on the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, he decided to submit his name for consideration. There are currently nine people on the board, who must serve on their local school board in order to also serve on the board of directors for the IGHSAU.

Fadness was elected and will serve a two year term, as he is replacing a school board member who didn't win re-election. Terms are usually four years.

Fadness says his main duty will be attending monthly meetings in West Des Moines, with occasional meetings during a state tournament. He mentioned with his son Erik graduating next May, he felt he had time for this new endeavor and is looking forward to it. Fadness also has a daughter, Laurel, at the University of Iowa, and his wife, Marcy, is a PA at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Decorah.

"I look forward to learning more about the issues facing the organization and representing the position of school boards to advance the goals of the girls union," shared Fadness.
