People who are convicted of a misdemeanor involving Decorah Municipal Code violations probably won't face prison time in the future.
The Iowa Legislature has passed a revision to laws covering municipal violations in the state. No longer will jail time be one of the possible punishments. City of Decorah Code currently says anyone convicted of violating municipal code, "upon conviction, shall be subject to a fine of not more than five hundred dollars or imprisonment not to exceed thirty days."
The Decorah City Council has approved the first reading of an ordinance that will remove the language about imprisonment.
