City of Decorah to get bids on repairs to the Dug Road Trail

Decorah City council members agreed that it's time to get bids on the repair of Dug Road Trail.

Council members Monday night unanimously approved setting dates to get bids on a project to remove a 400 foot section of the trail to 20 feet in depth, then rebuild the trail with soil "pillows" that are seen as a more stable base for the trail.

FEMA officials have approved the plan, along with 75 percent funding for the project.  The State of Iowa would pay another 10 percent of the cost.  City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says his estimate is that the entire project could be done for $500,000, meaning the city's share would be around $75,000.

It is hoped the soil moving project could still be done this fall, which would allow paving to be done next spring.
