County supervisors say more work will need to be done to the top part of the Courthouse

Winneshiek County Supervisors say a fair amount of work will need to be done on the courthouse building to keep it in usable condition.

A crew from Krause Konstruction of Coon Valley, Wisconsin recently inspected the dome of the courthouse and the roof and found several items that need to be fixed.  The statues of eagles on the courthouse have begun to separate from their perch and need to be secured better so they will not fall.  There is a hole in the roof of one of the turrets of the courthouse and screens are falling off the louvers of the main cupola.  There are several locations where the roofing has separated from its cement base or has developed holes.

One of the biggest problems is the turkey vultures who hang around the courthouse cupola and deposit..."guano"...that has been eroding the stone.  The cement will need cleaning and steps will need to be taken to keep the birds away from the building.

County supervisors say Krause Konstruction did an excellent job on their inspection, fixing all the existing leaks.  Supervisors will continue to discuss scheduling work on the courthouse so that the building remains usable and problems are avoided.
