Cafe Purple is a new group for both caregivers, family, and friends and for adults with dementia

Posted: Thu, Oct 12, 2017 11:01 AM

Cafe Purple is an opportunity for caregivers, family, and friends to connect with others who are caring for someone with Alzheimer's or other dementias. It's also for people with dementia, to connect with others with dementia and local volunteers.

The idea is that caregivers whose loved ones may need 24/7 supervision may have an easier time attending if they can bring their loved one along, and that loved ones with dementia will benefit from spending time out of the home in an environment where everyone understands that they may have cognitive impairment.

Brecka Putnam is a contact for Cafe Purple and Putnam says, "As we've been sharing our dad's diagnosis, we've encountered many people who are coping with Alzheimer's on their own. It's a difficult journey, and Cafe Purple gives people a chance to connect with others on the same road, as well as learn about resources available through the Alzheimer's Association and other entities."

Cafe Purple will meet the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church. Tuesday, October 24th will be the first meeting.

They are currently looking for a few volunteers to help out that evening and volunteers willing to provide refreshments, as light desserts and coffee.
