The federal government has agreed to help pay for new warning sirens in three Winneshiek County communities.
FEMA has approved funding for sirens in Freeport, Frankville and Burr Oak. However, the funding request was approved days before Hurricane Harvey hit Texas--followed by two other hurricanes in Florida and Puerto Rico.
Winneshiek County Emergency Government Coordinator Sean Snyder says FEMA has now contacted his office to say the sirens are still approved--but they will have to wait to see first what happens to FEMA's budget.
