FEMA sends Winneshiek County a check for almost $1 million

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has cut a check to Winneshiek County for $999,000.

The money represents the federal government's share of the cost of buying out six homes in Winneshiek County destroyed by last fall's flooding.  The homes were bulldozed and properties were leveled.

In addition to the money sent to Winneshiek county, FEMA has written a check to the City of Spillville to cover the federal government's share of buying four homes destroyed in last fall's flooding.

Both Winneshiek County and the City of Spillville will also receive small checks from FEMA to pay for minor costs associated with the flooded home buyout.
