Utility work will close part of Trout Run Trail for a day or two later this fall

The construction will be done near this sign

The portion of the Trout Run Trail near its bridge over Highway 9 will have to close temporarily later this fall.

City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says bids will be opened Thursday on a project to extend sewer and water lines to the Decorah Auto Center property at the intersection of Highway 9 & 52.  In order to get utilities to the property, the water and sewer lines will have to be extended from property near the Country Inn & Suites.

Erdman told members of the Winneshiek Trails 28e committee the project will have to cross the Trout Run Trail both at the trail extension to Country Inn & Suites and again near the "Decorah" welcome sign.

Erdman is scheduling the project so there's as little disruption as possible, but closing that portion of the trail will be necessary for at least a day or two.  Plans call for cutting through a part of the trail, then putting gravel on top of that portion after the construction work is done, with repaving coming next spring.
