Rain is welcome, but drought conditions exist in Winneshiek County

The National Weather Service Office in La Crosse says the Decorah Airport recorded 0.70 inch of rain Monday through early Tuesday morning.

The rain is welcome for area farmers, who are nervously watching drought conditions.  The report from the USDA and NOAA says all of Winneshiek County is either "Abnormally Dry," in a "Moderate Drought" or in a "Severe Drought."

The weekly crop report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture says, "Topsoil moisture levels rated 22 percent very short, 27 percent short, 50 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus."
