A public hearing will be held October 16th by the Decorah City Council on an agreement to work with Decorah Auto Center on the business' new development on the Highway 9 & 52 corner in Decorah.
Decorah Auto Center has purchased the former Berg Home & Agri building and property and is turning it into a car dealership facility. As part of its development agreement with the City of Decorah, the business is agreeing to a voluntary annexation of the property into the city.
In exchange, the city will award a ten-year property tax abatement, with 100 percent of the additional property taxes abated the first year, then abated in decreasing 10 percent increments the next nine years. The new property is expected to have an assessed valuation of at least $1.5 million.
