City of Decorah will begin leaf collection October 2nd

Posted: Tue, Sep 19, 2017 4:37 PM

The City of Decorah will be offering leaf pickup starting Monday, October 2nd and running until November 15th.

City Street Department crews will be collecting leaves on assigned pickup days for each neighborhood.  People living in Wards 1 & 2 should have leaves raked into the curb by October 2nd, while Ward 3 pickups will begin October 9th and Wards 4 & 5 will have pickups starting October 16th.  The schedule will then be repeated for the next three weeks, with Wards 1 & 2 pickups starting October 23rd, Ward 3 pickups starting October 30th and Wards 4 & 5 pickups starting November 6th.

City crews will pick up only leaves—the vacuum cannot pick up sticks, brush, garden refuse or other yard waste.  Rake leaves into windrow piles—crews are slowed down if they have to look for and handle separate leaf piles.  Please avoid parking near leaf piles on scheduled pickup days.

At the same time as leaves are being picked up by city crews, there will be round-the-clock leaf drop off at the Street Department's headquarters at 108 Railroad Avenue and the city's compost site on Trout Run Road will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. weekdays, as well as 8:00 a.m. until noon Saturday and until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evenings.
