Johanna Bergan announced today she is running for the Decorah City Council's Ward 5 seat.
Bergan serves as the Executive Director of Youth MOVE National, working from her home office, interfacing with a staff team from across the country, and supporting the development of youth leaders to become change agents to transform our nation's social systems including mental health, child welfare, and juvenile justice. She also worked for eight years at the Oneota Co-op as Front End Manager and Education and Outreach Coordinator.
"I am committed to raising my family in Decorah, and I care about how our community functions and grows. I believe diversity of leadership on our council will strengthen Decorah's future and am proud to represent female voices," she said in a statement.
Johanna Bergan is a Decorah native, graduating from Decorah High School in 2005, and receiving her BA in political science from Luther College in 2008. She lives in Decorah with her husband, Joel Zook, and two children, Margret and James, who attend Decorah Public Schools.
"Together, we can ensure Decorah remains the vigorous community we are each committed to living in, and pave the way for the future families to move and stay," says Johanna.
The Ward 5 seat on the Decorah City Council is currently held by Charles Lore. Candidates have until Thursday afternoon to file papers to be on November's ballot.
