25 members of the Decorah FFA have returned from the Tri-state Ag & Dairy Expo with a number of awards. Members participated in three different categories--dairy judging with reasons, dairy judging without reasons and dairy products evaluation.
The Decorah FFA team also participated in the district cattle judging contest. These students evaluated four classes of dairy cattle, told judges the reasons for their evaluations, and took a written test on dairy management. The team of Tye Anderson, Blake Courtney, and Brendan Lovstuen took first as a team, with Courtney named the top individual finisher.
Six students competed in the Tri-State FFA Dairy Cattle Judging with Reasons contest, where they evaluated four classes of dairy cattle and told judges the reasons for their evaluations. The Decorah FFA team of Tye Anderson, Blake Courtney, and Brendan Lovstuen received second as a team. Tye Anderson finished sixth individually and Brendan Lovstuen placed seventh.
Eleven students competed in the dairy judging with no reasons contest. Students evaluated four classes of dairy cattle and attended two workshops throughout the day to help them become better dairy evaluators and to learn about dairy production. The Decorah FFA team of Tyler Bullerman, Ethan Frana, and Jacob Voigt finished third, with Tyler Bullerman placing eighth individually.
Eight students competed in Dairy Product Evaluation. Students evaluated milk quality, identified cheese, identified dairy and non-dairy products, and took a written exam. The team of Braeley Ehrie, Anna Hanson, Bailey Miculinich, and Stacia Sexton placed first overall, and the team of Mason Falck, Julianna Wise, Hailey Nierling, and Parker Monroe took ninth overall. Stacia Sexton placed first individually, Bailey Miculinich placed second individually, and Hailey Nierling placed ninth individually.
For the dairy products written test, Julianna Wise finished first and Hailey Nierling finished second. In the area of real versus non-real dairy product identification, Stacia Sexton finished first individually and Bailey Miculinich finished second. Stacia Sexton was also recognized as first individually for dairy products examination with Bailey Miculinich following in second as an individual.
