Catherine Nelson grew up in Decorah. Now she's back, as a doctor, to care for the people in the town where she was born and raised.
At Gundersen Decorah Clinic, Dr. Nelson is providing the full spectrum of family medicine including obstetrics, clinic medicine and hospital medicine. She treats the entire family and also will be delivering babies.
"I am very excited to return to Decorah, my hometown! Decorah is such a beautiful community within the Driftless Region," comments Dr. Nelson. "There are so many opportunities to enjoy the beautiful landscape. I especially enjoy biking on the bike trail and kayaking on the Upper Iowa."
Nelson is a graduate of the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota and went to Des Moines University for medical school. She served her residency at the Verona Clinic in Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.
Away from work, she is a vocalist, violinist and pianist and has joined the Oneota Valley Community Orchestra. "Decorah also is very supportive of music and art which have been passions of mine," she says. "I look forward to attending concerts and events within the community. I am also excited to once again be cheering for the Decorah Vikings and enjoying Norwegian treats. My family also lives in the area and I am happy to be living close to family again."
