The Army Reserve has been moving vehicles this week from its facility next to City Hall in Decorah.
The move of the equipment to the Reserve unit's new headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada, is part of the announced shutdown of the unit in Decorah. That process began in June, when the Army Reserve unit in Decorah was decommissioned.
The Army has told the City of Decorah it would take one year to find another company to base here. If, at the end of that time, they would not be able to find another company which wanted to move into the building, they would begin the decommissioning process. The Army would look for a federal, state or local authority to take over the facility--in that order.
The City of Decorah has tried to preempt the process by sending a letter to the Army stating the city's desire to acquire the building. However, it has not yet gotten a response and nothing can happen at least until the end of the one year period in June of next year.
