Winneshiek County experiencing dry soil conditions

U.S. Drought Monitor - Iowa

Iowa State University Extension Agronomist Brian Lang says despite the dry conditions, the crops in NE Iowa are still looking good.

Lang says the U.S. Drought Monitor rates the northern half of Winneshiek and Allamakee counties as abnormally dry to moderate drought. "The crops are beginning to show some stress from the lack of moisture. We certainly won't see the record yields we had last year, but the yield potential still looks to be above average."

Crop maturity is running 1 - 2 weeks behind normal because of the cooler than normal temperatures this summer, but Lang says with the warmer temperatures this week, it could catch-up.
