A Wisconsin company is being hired to do some work on the tower of the Winneshiek County Courthouse.

Krause Konstruction of Coon Valley, Wisconsin is an expert in maintenance of towers and spires and has previously worked on the Winneshiek County Courthouse tower.

The Winneshiek County Board Monday morning informally approved a $9,660 estimate from Krause to do the work.  The company will inspect the entire copper portion of the dome on the building, repairing loose and damaged copper as needed, then will re-caulk to ensure a water tight seal.  That's important because the Courthouse has suffered water damages in the past year.

More permanent repairs to the Courthouse tower could be needed next year, but the contractor says that won't be determined until the crew is able to bring their forklift and get an up-close look at the condition of the tower.
