Luther College elementary music methods students are offering a weekly Wednesday "In-service" for any student in 3rd--6th grade.
The WILD music class runs from 8:00 a.m. until 8:50 a.m. Wednesdays, through December 6th, at Decorah Lutheran Church at 309 Winnebago Street in Decorah. Classes will be taught by Luther juniors in elementary music methods, with supervision by Luther music educators Jill Wilson and Linda Martin.
Doors will open at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday mornings. The class will begin with singing, learning folk dances, and playing singing games. During the middle of class time, the students will divide into small groups by grade level and the Luther students will create lesson plans and teach classes in pairs. There will be singing, moving, creating, drumming, chiming, and playing the ukulele to name of few, depending on the grade level. The groups will come together in one large group for a closing song to end each meeting time.
Students will be released to walk to Carrie Lee Elementary or the Middle School at 8:50 a.m.
There is no cost for the class; however, there are only 60 spots available.
This practicum experience is part of the Elementary Methods course (EDUC 371) taught by Linda Martin and Jill Wilson. There are 22 college students who will take turns teaching and observing and offering suggestions to their peers following each lesson. The two groups will trade jobs after fall break.
