August weather in Decorah was cool and dry

The temperature in Decorah in August never got above 86 degrees.  That's an indication that it was cooler than normal in town--2.4 degrees cooler than the average from the past 125 years.

August temperatures ranged from 86 degrees on August 2nd and 3rd to 48 degree on August 23rd.  This August's average temperature of 67.9 degrees was cooler than the average from 105 other August and warmer than only 18 Augusts.

Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz says Decorah was also below average in precipitation in August.  The city received 2.05 inches of rain--2.02 inches less than the average.  That meant August was the third month in a row with below average precipitation.  From June 1st through August 31st, a total of 8.89 inches of rain fell--3.91 inches less than average.
