Sheriff's Office responds to questions about door-to-door sales

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says it has received several calls about subjects going door to door trying to sell books and other products, which is making some citizens feel uneasy.

The Sheriff's Office is reminding the public you do not have to let anyone into your home, or let them remain on your property.  If you ask them to leave and they will not, call the Sheriff's Office and a deputy will be sent to your house.

Rural areas of Winneshiek County do not have a peddler's ordinance, therefore no permit is needed outside of any incorporated cities.  Ordinances vary in the cities within Winneshiek County, so check with the mayor or city clerk of your city to see if a peddler's permit is needed.
