(Response continues to come in from an Ask Mr. Answer Person question earlier this month (http://www.decorahnews.com/news-stories/2017/08/17243.html) about whether people should use a water filter on their drinking water. Lowell e-mails, "Every two or three years I have County Santarian Doug Groux sample and test my water. It always comes back clean and clear of contaminants. I also get certification that it is fit for infant consumption. My conclusion is that if there is any concern, have your water tested."):
Mr. Answer Person says: "Thank you for passing along this information. Doug Groux says the water testing is limited to once per year per household. It tests for nitrates, coliform bacteria and e-coli in your drinking water. It is a FREE test--thanks to a state grant. You can call the Sanitarian's Office from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. weekdays at 563-387-4120 to set up your water sampling.
By the way, Groux says the state grant is also being used in several other NE Iowa counties, including Howard and Allamakee.
