(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Winneshiek County Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Charlene Selbee):
"The WCCVB has been promoting Winneshiek County at the Iowa State Fair since 2005. This endeavor would not be possible without the help, encouragement, and support of Winneshiek County residents who volunteer their time to staff the booth.
This year 34 volunteers from Decorah, Burr Oak, Spillville, Ossian, Calmar, and Fort Atkinson took time out of their busy schedules to staff the 10 foot by 10 foot booth located in the Varied Industries building at the Iowa State Fair. The volunteers shared their enthusiasm and knowledge about Winneshiek County with over 3,000 fair attendees who stop at the booth. Over 6,000 Winneshiek County Visitor Guides, Seed Savers Exchange seed catalogs, Decorah Newspaper tourism inserts, attraction and self-guided tour brochures were handed out this year. In addition, the volunteers answered thousands of questions about Winneshiek County.
Thank you to Dick & Glenda Wuest; John & Carol Baker; Del & Carolyn Fure; Jane Hildebrand and Julie Wurtzel; Pat & Jerry Korzendorfer; Dawn Maroushek-Austin & Nic Doughan; Clark Goltz; Dave and Joy Roslien; Darlene and Dick Juve; Kathy and Kirsten Belz-Olson; Marcy & Joe Skretta; Gail Schaudenecker & Mary Weiss; Bill Wedmann & Liz Schafer; Jerry & Elaine Thompson; Ahmed Khalili; Linda & Rich Svenson; Ed & Joyce Epperly; and Steve and Sara Luse. It takes a team to promote a destination, the CVB is fortunate to have exceptional and dedicated volunteers promoting Winneshiek County."
