Jake Nimrod is on the job as Associate Principal and Activities Director at Decorah MIddle School.  Nimrod grew up in Decorah, a member of the class of 1997.  In high school, he participated in football, track and baseball and he was a member of the National Honor Society. Nimrod says the best part of the sports for him was being on Coach Post's, Coach Rollinger's and Coach Olejniczak's teams. After graduating from Decorah HIgh School, he attended Luther College and graduated in 2001 with a degree in Health and Physical Education.

Nimrod is the youngest son of Dale and Sunny Nimrod and the younger brother of Park and Recreation Director Andy Nimrod. Some of his hobbies include spending time reading and fishing. He and his family enjoy kayaking and recently were able to try out their kayaks on the river.

Jake met his wife, Carrie, at Luther College.  Carrie graduated from high school in Wayzata, Minnesota and graduated from Luther in 2003. They have two boys, Clarence a third grader, and Leonard a first grader. Carrie will be working as an associate at West Side Early Childhood Center.

Decorah MIddle School has an enrollment of 520 students in fifth through eighth grades, so a new position of associate principal and activities director was created for the school, beginning this fall.

Administrative Assistant Paula McIntyre has been working with Nimrod the past three weeks.  She says he has been a big help to have around before school starts. "He has been keeping everything up-to-date in the athletic department, recording physicals, concussion sign-off, and impact testing, so students will be able to start practice after school on Wednesday," said McIntyre.

Nimrod will be responsible for all the activities at the middle school, including athletics, music and fine arts. Nimrod will also be supporting Principal Justin Albers in his duties.

Nimrod says he is looking forward to creating a good place to learn and a good place to teach. He is working on learning kids' names, building relationships and learning their likes and dislikes and their hobbies.  He says he has learned that kids learn a lot better in that kind of an environment.

"I have been on the job for three weeks and I've been impressed with the level of dedication and professionalism that I've seen out of the teachers. I've been impressed with the fire in their eyes that I see. This is a tremendous staff here at Decorah Middle School. As an administrator and as the school's first associate principal, I'm really looking forward to the year. It is an added bonus to raise a family in a community like this and my wife and I are looking forward to that as well," stated Nimrod.
