Former Decorah resident Ryan Hall has announced his candidacy for the District B seat on the Iowa City Council--and credits his candidacy to the time he spent in Decorah.
Hall lived in Decorah from September of 2015 through August of 2016, working through the Green Iowa Americorps program, doing home energy audits on behalf of the Winneshiek Energy District.
In that job and in his volunteer work with the Winneshiek County Democratic Party, Hall organized a number of events, including a program at the Decorah butterfly garden and part of the "Break Free from Fossil Fuel" programs.
He praises what he calls "the amazing culture" of Decorah and says it is a great place to get experience volunteering for political and community organizations. For instance, he attended the Winneshiek County Democratic Party's County Convention as a delegate and worked on the 1st District Democratic platform.
Hall will face off against current Iowa City Council member Susan Mims in the November 7th election in that city. He says he has already been going door to door in the district, getting face-to-face time with voters and also canvassing business owners. District B is a diverse mix of historic homes and new homes on the east and southeast side of Iowa City.
