Part of Winneshiek County added to USDA drought list

The USDA has added a portion of northeast Winneshiek County and northwest Allamakee County to its map of Iowa counties experiencing drought conditions.

The USDA says the area is experiencing "moderate drought." That's nowhere near as severe as the conditions being experienced in southern Iowa, but it is the first time this summer the USDA's report has declared the counties to be experiencing a notable shortage of moisture.
