A garden has been planted outside Carrie Lee Elementary School in Decorah.

The garden, which was planted this spring and is being maintained through the summer, is an extension of the science curriculum at the school and a source of fresh produce for the school lunch program.  Carrie Lee students prepared, planted, watered and weeded the garden this spring and summer.

Carrie Lee Elementary third grade teacher Jenn DeLaRosa said, "By growing as much produce as possible in our school garden, we will be able to reduce the energy costs related to the daily shipping of foods, making use of our natural resources and providing more locally grown, healthy foods for our students."

A grant from Rockwell Collins paid the costs of the Carrie Lee Elementary garden.
