Assistant Director Dr. Brian Brown of the University of Missouri Institute of Positive Coaching shared ways to improve mental conditioning with Decorah athletes and coaches on Tuesday throughout the day.

"For the athlete the moment is the most important thing. How do you take some of the mental approach and utilize it in the moment?" asked Brown.

"For coaches it's how do you teach them? How do you bring them from here to there? How do you model it for them, so that they can see that it's important to you? If it's not important to the coach, it's won't be important to them," shared Brown.

"How does the skill of focus, really impact their ability to compete at the optimal level? Most times the motor skill is worked on the most. We practice that a lot. Do we make time, are we willing to make time for the skill of focus? Both the mental and the physical are needed for optimal performance. Most of what applies to the moment of sports applies to life and to the modeling of coaching," Brown added.
