Decorah business owner Brittany Todd and Luther College Assistant Dean for Student Life Kasey Nikkel are collaborating to bring Luther students and Decorah businesses together through a Luther welcome event.

Participating downtown retailers will take part in the welcome event on Saturday, September 2nd, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Luther College resident assistants (RAs) will walk with students from campus to downtown Decorah and back, stopping at participating retailers for special promotions along the way. Vans will be available in case of rain.

Todd says when she was a Luther student she didn't venture past the Whippy Dip until her senior year, and she doesn't want other Luther students to make that same mistake. "It's important to get Luther students downtown so they can see firsthand all that Decorah has to offer."

Todd says many businesses have already committed to participating in the event and she is excited about the potential benefits for both the retailers and the students. "The welcome event is a great opportunity for Decorah retailers to showcase what they have to offer to thousands of Luther students. It's also a great way for the students to see that Decorah has a thriving downtown and it's within walking distance from campus."
