Decorah City Council holds four public hearings Monday night

Four public hearings were held Monday night by the Decorah City Council.

Council members approved the first reading of a rezoning request from David Olson for property at 1006 Woodside Court, off Commerce Drive.  If another two readings are approved, the land will be zoned R-2 residential, rather than commercial.

Aase Haugen Senior Services' request for a rezoning to allow a condominium development on property to the east of Vennehjem had its first reading approved.  There was a long discussion about stormwater runoff in the area, although city engineering consultant Lindsay Erdman said the area of concern about rainwater runoff is to the west of Vennehjem, not to the east.

A hearing on plans for the specifications for a helicopter hangar at the Decorah Airport was delayed on the request of Gundersen Health systems, which wants to use the hangar for its medical helicopter.  Gundersen officials say they have not yet been able to finalize all the details of the project.

Finally, the city council awarded a bid  to JB Holland Construction for $88,118 worth of alley work, following the fourth public hearing.
