It will take a little bit of planning to get around in Decorah on Friday, what with 10,000 RAGBRAI bikers and numerous Nordic Festers visiting.
Here's what you need to know:
- The Locust Road/College Drive intersection WILL be open, but traffic can only cross College Drive from Locust Road to West Decorah--it will NOT be allowed on College Drive.
- The College Drive Bridge WILL be open to two-way traffic. The west lanes of the bridge will carry vehicle traffic, while the east lanes of the bridge will carry bike traffic.
- There's another crossing point within Decorah--Broadway at River Street. Vehicle traffic and bike traffic will take turns using the intersection.
- As for Decorah's major roads, Highway 52 at Pole Line Road will be a bike rider crossing point, with vehicles and bikes taking turns. All other major roads--Highway 9, Montgomery Street, Short Street--will not be directly affected by bike traffic.
The Decorah Street Department has posted an interactive Google map on its Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/decorahstreetdepartment/ The map shows the route bike riders will take, the detours car and truck drivers will be sent on and the streets which will be barricaded. Traffic restrictions will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
